Dwayne Wade & Gabriel Union on the front cover of ESSENCE

According to Madam Noire-“February is the month of love, so for the newest issue of Essence, the iconic magazine is helping you find love “at any age.” Easier said than done, right? Anywho, they’ll be doing so with advice and stories from real, successful black couples. One couple whose story/business I’m sure you’ll want to be all over and up in is Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s long and public relationship, as the two are covering the magazine and cheesing it up (how cute!).
Inside the pages, they touch basis on the fact that everyone (and their mothers) is wondering when the couple plans to get married, especially since Wade’s teammate and good friend, Lebron James, literally just popped the question over the weekend. Despite all that and all the pressure, they say they’re slowing their roll and taking their time:
“We’re not rushing it. Both of us have been married before, and we understand that if we choose to marry again, we want it to be right,” says Wade. “We both took failing at marriage hard. The next time it’s gotta be forever…”
You have to respect them for that–marriage isn’t a joke, and if they’re not 100 percent ready yet, might as well not rush, especially since they’ve both been there and done that before. Wade went through a huge public divorce battle after his eight-year marriage to Siohvaughn Wade ended in 2010 (which she claimed Union was the reason for). Siohvaughn threw much mud at Gabrielle and Dwyane’s relationship, even suing Gabi for a “lack of discretion” (aka, foreplay) in front of Siohvaughn and Dwyane’s sons while he was supposed to be keeping watch of the boys. Obviously, those claims went nowhere, and Dwyane was even given custody of his two sons because of Siohvaughn’s antics. As for Gabrielle Union, she was married for five years to former NFL running back Chris Howard. Their marriage ended in 2006.
In the spread, the couple get cutesty-wootsy on us, Gabi looking fab in a yellow dress and Dwyane looking very hot in a white and black suit. They sure do look in love!
