Sin & A Shame: Afghan Woman Freed From Prison After Agreeing To Marry The Man That Raped Her

An Afghan woman who reluctantly agreed to marry her rapist in order to escape prison was freed late Tuesday. The woman, who is about 20 years old and goes by the name Gulnaz, was serving a 12-year sentence for having sex out of wedlock after her cousin's husband allegedly forced his way into her home, tied her up then raped her. American lawyer Kimberly Motley helped Gulnaz receive a pardon from President Hamid Karzai if she agreed to wed her rapist. Her attacker is also father of the baby she gave birth to on a prison floor.
