6-Yr Old Has Jacket Tied Around Her Neck, Dragged by Teacher Across the Playground

Your Black World reports.

A school teacher has been taken to jail for harming a 6-year old child.  Mildred Russ, 65, was arrested after a little girl’s mother said that Russ dragged her across a playground on Monday.  The officers with the Baker Police Department studied the child’s clothing and determined that her story is likely true.

"She tied my jacket around my neck and she dragged me to the playground to the office," said Kiya Rogers.

When the girl’s mother, Jessica Rogers, went to the police station to pick up the child’s uniform, there were holes in it.  Her shorts also had grass stains.  The mother is also upset because school officials didn’t tell her what happened until Wednesday.

"What were you doing before she did this?" the little girl was asked. "I was talking in the classroom, but we started walking to the lunch room," Kiya answered.

"But, that does not give anybody a right to do that to her," said Jessica Rogers. "She's only six years old. She should not have experienced anything like that."

Police Chief Mike Knaps said that he’s known the school teacher for years, and was shocked.

"There is no valid excuse to take such action against a child," said Knaps. "I'm in my 31st year with the police department and I've never been witness to anything like this before."

I'M ON THE TEACHER'S SIDE!!
The teacher was fed up. People breed little monsters and then they're put off on the school system and they are not to be touched, yelled at, threatened or cursed. But yet, the kids curse, disrespect, threaten, and physically violate teachers. I'm tired of the breeders hatching monsters and then getting upset when people can no longer put up with them. If you're going to have them ... train them.

This teacher could have been fed up but this child was only 6 years old. I am sure being in education as long as she has been, she could have thought of something else to do than drag this child across the playground...I mean really.

sHE GOT WHAT SHE DESERVE THE TEACHER THAT IS... yOU DON'T PUT YOUR HAND ON OR DRAG ANYONE'S CHILD, i DON'T CARE WHAT THEY DID. sHE IS TOO DAMN OLD TO STILL BE TEACHING AND ESPECIALLY IF SHE IS THAT FED UP!! She fould have called another teacher to watch her class and excuse herself, or send the child out of the class to the office. Nothing warrants her actions. Old Biddy, needs to retire!! Keep her ass locked up and Throw away the key !!She would have never did this to a child of a different race.

Anonymous said...

This has absolutely nothing to do with breeding monsters. If the teacher can't handle the pressure then she needs to get out the kitchen. Even IF this little girl is a monster, she tied her jacket around her neck and dragged her across the playground! Can you say RETIRE!

... I want to know why this report is so incomplete. Reporters rushing to be the first to publish, sensationalizes the event, leaving the reader hanging, without any real facts to form an opinion. When the reporter asked the 6 year old what was going on before the incident, I suggest she also gather and report
1. Was this the first time this child had exhibited bad conduct,by not obeying the Classroom Rules--taking in line, etc.?
2. Had the child's mother been told
the child had a conduct problem
before?
2. Had the school had problems
with the teacher before,
regarding her method of
correcting students?
3. Was this child know to have a
woomanish attitide (common to
children of all races today)?
4. If the mother did not know
about this incident until she
picked up the child's clothes
from the police station, a day
or several days later-
a) what clothes did the child
wear home from school the day
of the incident?
b)what reason was the mother
told the child had on
clothes different from the
clothes she wore to school?

With just the facts reported, I see both the teacher and the mother have dysfunctional tendencies. The educator, under paid for many years, is fustrated . . . and the mother, not having reacted earlier when her child came home with different clothes, is not observant or nuturing, as mothers raising a social norm child should be.

We,as a race of people, know our children, as a whole, are out of control. We can look at their dress style and know that! The majority does not respect their elders, and conduct themselves like miniture men & women, with attitudes the have developed from watching their parents-- who have no respect for their parents or other elders -- and the parent makes no effort to correct the child -- because they don't know any better!!

Unfortunately, this DYSFUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR is celebrated on Black Television shows andin Black music, which we make no effort to monitor (Federal Commuication Agency, etc) (and other reality shows). . .thus, the child is only acting out what we, adults, allow them to see and imitate. . .after all, they are only children!

To the turd that said the children were monsters, where do you live? If you don't like children, you shouldn't be teaching them.I bet that old bitty would not have dragged a little white girl even if she had sat her hair on fire.I expected to see some young white trash, not some old fool black witch. My teachers would never had fantasized such nonsense.

Walter Brooks said...

I agree hole heartedly with Ms Porcher-Watson. We should have more facts. While I do think what the teacher did was extreme. Our kids are to often out of control, disrespectful, etc. Not all ofcourse but far to many. As seen bysome of the coments, teachers get dumped on from all sides. Before you judge the teacher visit some of the classrooms aand see what a teacher has to deal with. You might be surprise at what a techer has to deal with.

Anybody who does this to a 6-year old needs to be put up under the jail. There is no excuse.

MILDRED ROSS HAS REAL....ISSUES. SHE MUST NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN OF HER OWN. OR A MAN. I DON'T CARE WHAT A CHILD DOES. SHE ACTED AS THOUGH SHE WAS DEALING WITH AN ADULT. TREATED THAT CHILD AS AN ANIMAL. ALL OF YOU THAT AGREE WITH THAT WITCH NEED YOUR REAR-ENDS (FOR LIKE OF A BETTER WORD) KICKED ALL OVER THE CITY YOU LIVE IN. LET SOMEONE DRAG YOUR CHILD ACROSS A PARKING LOT. SEE HOW YOU WOULD HANDEL IT. NO WE MAY NOT HAVE ALL OF THE FACTS, BUT NO CHILD DESERVES THAT TYPE OF PUNISHMENT. THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO CHASTEN A HUMAM BEING. SLAVERY IS FREAKING OVER. THAT'S WHAT WAS DONE TO OUR ANCESTERS. IF IT WAS MY GRAND CHILD. I'D BE IN JAIL. SHE NEEDS TO ROTT IN JAIL AND BURN IN HELL FOR THAT. ALL YOU TEACHERS THAT DON'T LIKE YOUR JOBS GET ANOTHER ONE. WALMART IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR OLD BAGS FOR DOOR KEEPERS. SHE COULD HAVE CHOAKED THAT CHILD TO DEATH. SHE IS A CRAZY OLD BAG. SHE WOULDN'T HAVE THE NERVE TO DO THAT TO A WHITE CHILD.

I'm lost for words, I'm just shock a school teacher would let her emotions get in the way, This behavior is unacceptable, I hope Mildres Russ is not a Sunday School Teacher, you just can't act out like this, But My comment is direct at the first comment were this evil speaker stated "People Breeding Monster" First of all we are all Human Being, not Monsters are you a Monster, "NO" I'm sure you were a bad kid growing up too, we all have accept some of us were discpline the right way as in how to respect your parents, elders, teachers, and so on I would have not accepted your comment, perfering children as "MONSTER" something is wrong with you. How dare you to say a mother giving birth to a child, and your comment is "Hatching Breeder as Monster" It sounds like you don't like children and you are evil person...

There always been a big elephanlt in the room that we as a people need to address. Self hatred is a like cancer. Black people hating thier brother man mimicking the other man. A black woman felt the need to drag a six year old black baby girl like she's trash. If it was a white teacher it would be world war 3, since it's a black teacher situations such as this Always passed over with minimal of concern

Too bad the teacher let her issues with children s bad behavior build up and get the best of her, now she will pay for that for the rest of her life, it's not worth it, maybe she should have changed fields some time ago.

Can't believe ppl are siding with the teacher-SMDH! This is a child a 6yr old child and the action she took to correct what ever the problem may have been was wrong and I'm glad she was arrested. People are saying look at the facts...the only fact you need is the child is 6 and the situation should've been handled differently!

IT IS NOT A TEACHERS CALL TO MAKE A PHYSICAL IRRATIONAL JUDGEMENT ON 6YR OLDS.ITS THE LAW CALL.

THIS IS FOR MR. BROOKS & MS. WATSON
EITHER Y'ALL ARE SLOW OR JUST PLAIN STUPID. THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR ANY ADULT TO STOOP TO A CHILDS LEVEL PERIOD !!!. NO AMOUNT OF FACTS WILL CHANGE WHAT SHE DID. " CHOKED A CHILD " IF THE PARENT HAD DONE THAT SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR CHILD ABUSE. I HAD 7 , I THANK GOD A TEACHER OR ANY ADULT NEVER FELT THE NEED TO CHOKE ONE OF THEM, BECAUSE I WOULD'VE BEEN IN JAIL FOR MURDER.

Anonymous said...

OMG! Anybody that tries to justify this action is just ludacris themselves! I agreee with Dandzra. You might can charge frustration to this if it was a simple pull to the back of a line or something(which is also inappropriate), but jacket around the neck and dragged in this manner is NEVER justified. Everybody has hard jobs, but you must remain professional at all times. Never lose your cool like this. UNACCEPTABLE and she should have been jailed.

Erica R. Campbell said...

There is absolutely no reason for a teacher to drag a student. For adults to suggest that this behavior is okay boggles my mind. There are a number of other ways the teacher could have handled the student. For the anonymous person who posted that the little girl should have been trained, get your life together. This little girl is not an animal and should NEVER be treated as such. If the child has behavioral problems then she should be talked to and disciplined according to the law(first)and school guidelines second. Teachers are not the only people who have bad days. A bad day is no excuse to physically harm any child.

Kishairi Amor said...

That teacher should have been retired anyway. Whoever agrees with this type of punishment should be dragged across grass and concrete. From the story I read all the little girl did was talk when she should have been quiet. Furthermore if the teacher was fed up....the parent should have been called to intervene long ago. She should loose the job period. If I was a parent I'd felt uncomfortable with my child in her classroom.

Anonymous said...

Dang all she did was drag the little heffa, it's not like she killed her or for that matter hit her. Maybe this was the only way she could get her little wayward ass to the office. She might have have been kicking and screaming, all out out control. There is definitely more to this. I would jump on the teacher so fast, the media always adds a little hype to stories, that's what makes them sell. Poor teacher, if all this is going to happen, she should have beat her ass and have a real reason to be arrested. Obviously the momma sees dollar signs, her actions show, according to how the media portrays, she could care less what happened to the kid. X

The teacher went over board and it also could be exaggerated as well. Any child with thick as baby hair like that in 2011 probably need's her mama to whoop her tail but she gone do it! Cause she GHETTO and IGNORANT herself. Ghetto and ignorant parents breed Ghetto and ignorant children!!

Anonymous said...

For all you who think the teacher needs to retire, you need to attend a few classrooms, all teachers feel the same about your unruly, ghetto fabulous, retarded acting ass kids. If they all did retire who would be left to try to teach these little heathens anything. Better yet, home school your bad ass kids.

Ms Rita said...

For those of you condemning the teacher, and saying "poor little 6 year-old", remember this..this generation of kids are a whole new breed. Physically harm?? Please!! How about she and her mother are embarrassed?? Where did it say she had to receive medical treatment?? They looked at her clothes to determine if her story was true, so that tells me the child didn't have a mark on her. Most parents feel these days that no teacher better lay a hand on "my child", well guess what? that's probably why YOUR child cuts a fool in school..they know mama/daddy will not let anyone else discipline them. Clearly, you are NOT from the old school. My 6th grade teacher was a sweet woman, but would hem your butt up (literally) quick if we got out of line. I knew this, my parents knew this..so guess what didn't happen? I never got into trouble, but they also allowed paddling back then, and I didn't want the whooping I KNEW was waiting for me when I got home for acting up in school. SOME of these kids are little monsters & that behavior starts at home. It's not the teachers job to teach & give your child 'home training'. If you don't like..HOME SCHOOL YOUR OWN KIDS THEN. By the way, I've raised 6 kids who are grown with their own families. They cut up in school, until they realized their teacher had my permission to whoop that a**, if they got out of line again.

AND IF THINGS WERE IN ORDER ON THE HOMEFRONT, CHILDREN WOULDN'T DARE GET OUT OF LINE IN SCHOOL, BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THEM BACK AT HOME.

I am not a judge or jury. There are a lot of people questioning the child's actions and say that parents need to step in the classroom. I do agree that more parents need to spend time in the classroom with their child. Make suprise visits to the school. However, at no point, under any circumstances should a child or anyone be treated the way this child was. Yes, we do have some children that act out. But that doesn't give us as ADULTS the right to harm them or punish them the way that we see fit. As a teacher, she is supposed to teach and protect the children that are entrusted into her care. If the child was misbehaving or acting out, she should have notified the parent, another teacher or administrator. I agree that teachers have a difficult job but they knew this when they made the decision to become one. People sometimes forget the most important lesson of life. Though shall not judge unless thee be judge. Treat others the way that you want to be treated. We are all children of GOD. It takes a village to raise a child. Sometimes single parents or parents in general need help. Instead of badmouthing the teacher, child/children or the parent, PRAY for them. Lift them up. Stop tearing them down.

Well I pray the teacher gets out. I doubt it happened the way the little girl says it did. Yall fail to realize kids do know how to lie or go along with the lie. her moma could have asked her "did your teacher drag you?" and the child could have been like "yes"...thats just like your man coming home at 4am and you say "charles, where you been...with your friends?" and he like yeah, thats where i been...YALL PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP!!!THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU WERE KIDS!! AND WHERE ARE THE WITNESSESS LIKE THE MICHEAL BAISDEN LISTENER SAID

What kind of message are you sending. There are procedures that should be in place to deal with difficult children. I sure hope you dont work around children.......becuz i fear for them...really. it's never ok to hit children....regardless of any situation and with all that we have going on in the world, especially minority children......their education should be #1....

This is a sad situation, especially since we dont know the whole story. Comment have been made in defense of both the teacher and the child.
I can remember going to school and the teacher would pull you down the hall by your ear or whatever else she/he could catch you by and if you were on the school yard the same thing would be done. We have lost site of the big picture, many of us making comments grew up in that area where it was ok for the teacher to spank or paddle a child. That didnt kill you, because your here responding to this story. And futhermore your kid(s) may be acting out just like this little six year old child. This thing called manners and respect begins at home!!!!

I have a 7 year old grandson, so I go to school sometimes just to check. I notice the little kids are squirming, and almost constantly in motion. I notice this especially when I go in the afternoon. I think little kids should be allowed to take a nap in the afternoon. Also there were some little girls, who talk almost non-stop. Little kids just get up and move around whenever they want to, and the teacher is constantly reminding them to remain in their seats. I really don't know how the teachers teach. I am beginning to wonder if it's something in the water, or do the kids get enough rest. Or maybe they're playing too many video games, and their brain is moving too fast. I don't know what it is but parents had better get control and quick. These kids are not being taught they're being trained, and we all know where that road leads.

Anonymous said...

I'm shocked and upset that grown people actually think it's OKAY to drag a CHILD across a play with her coat tied around her neck. What if that had been yours? What it that had been YOU?? True the story is lacking a lot of details but what's written is very disturbing that an adult, teacher, mother, grandmother would harm a child. There are just too many adults with the "I don't give a dayum attitude" about our kids from babies to teenagers. All I know is there was a better way to handle the situation and the teacher was OUT of line and stepped overe, under and around the line of control on this situation. And I don't give a dayumn what that little girl did or said. She was wrong. And for all you that say it's okay or it was "ONLY"; I pray nothing like this or worse happens to yours.

Ms Rita said...

To Shocked Anonymous (post 5:10 pm), you are right, it is lacking some details. Other parents of children in this girls class have gone on record about the problems this little girl AND her mother have caused, which the school has tried to handle to no avail. However, I disagree with the 'I don't give a damn' statement. It's teachers AND parents that DO give a damn that make a difference. Are you or have you ever been a teacher? Because it is so easy to say what 'could have been' handled another way when you're not in it. No this is not the 60's or the 70's but the school mentality and discipline of that time need to come back.

Anonymous said...

It don't matter what the child did that teacher had no right doing a 6yr old child that way. what is this world coming to that is abuse in the 1st degree. shame on the police force for not notifying the parent. This teacher got no business working in no other school as long as she live. This is not a mistake this is just plain abuse. And for that lady that is for the teacher shame on you too. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS OR DRAG KIDS IN 2011 OR ANY OTHER YEAR. I'm for the parent she could've choked that little girl to death and then it was going to be a murder charge on that teacher. i feel this is attempted murder because tying anything around a child neck is wrong.

Anonymous said...

I too agree that we may not have all the facts. However, the teacher should not have done this. I personally feel that it is time for the teacher to retire, which she may have been planning to do after this year anyway. Unfortunately, I have a 3rd grader this year who has always done her work and been praised by her former teachers. This year, she is dealing with a teacher who is older and who speaks of retiring every-time she calls. She has called me more times in the past 2months over silly stuff. She has a teachers aid who in the classroom who is 73 years old, who seems to have the kids under better control than the teacher. I have visited the class, unexpectedly, many times and every time no matter the time of day she is sitting behind her desk teaching. These are 3rd graders not 5th or 6th graders. They are still trying to get over the fact that they no longer have nap/rest time or go outside for PE daily. (P.E. is only twice a week -some days outside somedays in the gym) She calls me saying Ur daughter: is daydreaming (can u blame her u sit at your desk all day); her shoes (light-up shoes) are causing the other kids to be distracted so she cant wear them anymore; she needs to stop hugging (she is very friendly/believes everybody loves her an issue I am working with her own) whats sad at the PTO meeting kids & some of the staff ran up to her and bearhugged her, when she told me to talk to her about raising her hand in class to answer questions I was fed up. She told me she always raises her hand to answer questions. I asked are the answers incorrect -teacher says: No, but she doesn't allow the other kids a chance. My daughter chimed in but Mommy no one else raised their hand I waited and they didnt raise their hands so I did.. There is a lot more to this story as you can tell. The bottom line. Teachers are not like they use to be, which is Y I have looked into homeschooling when winter break starts.

shocked by some of the comments on here, but this is sad, too sad. Doesn't really matter what she did, that would not give any teacher the right to drag anyone anywhere..if she has a history of being "womanish", so she should have plenty other consequences not involving dragging by the neck! you guys must abuse your children for you to think she must have been "fed up" you sick dummies! some of you should ask your self if your child acts up in school would you tell the teacher hey if he or she does it again, please drag him or her by the neck, that will straighten it out! Hell no! so all those comments are just plain ignorance. She needs to stay in jail, that's child abuse!! She could have been choked to death by the time she got across a school yard. what in the devil is wrong with all of you??!!

There is nothing that a 6 year old can do to make you go to that extreme. For all you idiots who agree with the teacher, bring your ass to Detroit and I'll drag your ass right across 8 Mile. I am astonished at the reactions of all the parents and their responses to the teacher. The person who wrote about the little monsters is right. Society has cetainly changed and children are exposed to a lot of things that are detrimental to his/her development. As a race, our children are out of control. Pants down so far, you can see the balls, parents cursing, drugs, etc. How many of your children are on the honor roll and trying to obtain an education? We lead the nation in failure within the school systems. I agree with the lady about the facts..Innocent until proven guilty. As far as the violent reaction( ass whooping) from parents..great example from you and now you have the nerve to be mad at the teacher. GET OVER YOURSELVES

This little girl may be 6 but have the mouth to match any 12 or 13 year old..YOU DON'T KNOW. I still stand by what I said earlier, the child needed discipline and the teacher gave her some. If you don't agree with the teacher's methods, again..HOME SCHOOL YOUR OWN DAMN DISRESPECTFUL KIDS AND STOP PUTTING IT OFF ON A TEACHER FOR 7 HOURS A DAY TO DEAL WITH!! For all of you hollering abuse, how many of you got whooped with a switch, extension cord, shoe, wooden spoon or whatever else your parent(s) could get their hands on?? Did you threaten them with an ass whooping or worse?? Did you call them abusive?? This how WE WERE RAISED IN SAGINAW MI. Some of you have real short memories.

OMG! This is a sad situation. If the teacher in fact did such she needs to step down from her position. I am sure there is more to this story then what we have read here. I realize that kids are nothing like they use to be but even so we can't drag them around on the ground like they are animals. Laws protect people and this kid is a person. The teacher I'm sure was very upset but if she felt the urge to hurt the child she should have waked away and had someone else to deal with it. Now looke at the damage she has done to herself. Prayers for all involved.

I cannot justify what this teacher did, but I can emphathize with with her. I ran a licensed daycare for 6 yrs before the behavior of these kids got to be too much for me. I had kids cussin, saying words that I wouldnt even say, physically trying to hurt the other kids, purposely destroying things, and even hurting their own parents. And keep in mind, these kids were 4 yrs old or younger and when I would comfront the parent, I quickly found out where the child got it from.So I do have alot of emphathy for this teacher because I know how much kids can push you to your breaking point. My own children have made me have to catch myself a time or two before I knocked them croos the room because of their mouth. Nevertheless, this does not justify this crime. I think that the teacher was probably over-worked and under paid, and should have gotten out a long time ago. I'm sure that when she started teching it was ALOT different from what it is today.

For all the people throwing out the ghetto word... And this and that... I guarantee it will be the other way around if it happened to your child or someone close... And what's pathetic and ridiculous is that I guarantee that the majority of the comments on here are from black individuals... Pretty fuckin pathetic yes your right let it be a white lady that dragged the little and it will be a race issue quickly .. But since it's a black woman oh we'll it's not that big of an issue. If the kids are a screwed up generation I see why with a screwed up generation they are picking up from.. Food for thought.

I dont think its a race thing. In my daycare, the majority of these kids were white. they act just as terrible as the black kids. Mainly because it has been instilled in them that nothin is gonna happen if they act up.. Please... kids are gonna be kids no matter the color. I am black and here is what a white child said to another white child that was crying " Shut the fuck up crying and stop being such a pussy". ( excuse my language). I comfronted the parent and she said" He got it from his father" :/... This has nothing to do with color. Its about how we raise our kids. You spare the rod you spoil the child. Im sure the are alot of pieces left out of this story. This teacher should have never dragged this child like that by no means, but im sure the teacher had just had enuff and snapped before she thought about what she did.

No what the teacher did was not right .But these children these have a real lack of respect for authority an that starts at home she may be a beautiful child but she may have a nasty attitude .This is someone who told someone about this and that person told her girl you can sue .This has gone to for this is a money thing the mom should have done something about this when her child came home on different clothes .I don't know about no one else i would have been at the school the same dayto address this issue abuse is serious. no matter who it is .If the child would have came to school like that they would have call cps on her .

Regarding this situation, I believe we all need to remain level-headed and let the laws of the land decide what should happen. Name calling, degrading others and such will not settle anything. Please stay calm and use some wisdom as there may be some children reading these statements; which are very hurtful words to read. This is not the way to handle this situation. Let the law handle it for God's sake.

Itit is sad some of the comments thatbi have read. In this situation draagging the child across the playground with something around her neck was cruel, dangerous, and certainly unacceptable. However, society has taken the power away from social groups such as schools. These damn kids get away with too much these days some of them need their little asses whooped. They are disrespectful and unruly at home so of course they act like fools in school. When I was growing up the teachers would fuck us straight up if we acted up and then call our parents and they would arrive and fuck us straight up again. The children today are taught not to have morals but they are misguided into thinking that they can do whatever they want and if someone , even parents, put their hands on them they should contact the authorities and these people would be arrested. Society certainly sends the wrong message to our kids because when they get older and their little misconducts turn to major criminal behavior society wants to throw them in jail and throw away the key when they are really to blame for thheir confusions as to what is and is not tolerated.

I'm very sorry that it happened to this little girl, but there is always two sides to every story. I don't think any person should deserve to get choked and drugged. As blacke people we should not be against one other and encourage each one of us to do better in life. Come up with solution instead of making problem worse. They are both in my prayers.

For those posted as anonymous/or not and saying she needed that discipline is f***ing nuts! You are abusive you just haven't got caught yet. Sooooo you're ghetto if your name is Kiya and if you have fine hair???WTH! Some of you need to go Google "ghetto". If the teacher did cause harm to the child then she need to be held accountable in the court of law. There is no justification for her actions. Even if Kiya has behavioral problems the teacher as an adult she should have known her boundaries. To the parent, you know your child and how he/she behaves. Seek help if you are having issues with your child's behavior, if you don't you will be responsible for their actions. Race has nothing to do with it children of every race has behavioral problems. It does not matter if the child is 6 or 17, hell even grown assault is assault. If the teacher became overwhelmed, then she should have removed herself the problem and got assistance. Children are not monsters!! If you are a teacher or are looking to be a teacher and you think children are monsters please quit or look to go to another field of work. You are a danger to children if you believe what the teacher did is okay (if she did it)!

Now, it is so true, kids display different personalities when they are not in the eyesight of their parents. Educators are to be in control and have control of their classroom WITHOUT assault or violence. This was clearly assault and abuse to the extreme. It doesn't matter if the little girl was an unruly student in the past or even that day. There are procedures in place that are to be enforced without having to drag someone across a playground. Now really!!! As parents, teachers, staff, etc...we are suppose to know how far to go without it being considered "against the law". Now she has time to sit and think about the would've, could've, should've. Teaching has obviously ceased to be her passion and it's sad that it took this to reflect that. If you are not a public people person, don't get a job working with the public. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of KIDS (mannerable or unruly ones)...DO NOT HAVE A JOB WORKING WITH OR AROUND KIDS!!! Plain and simple!

I don't agree with any type of abuse It was wrong . But no one really knows what happen I know Mrs.Russ is not that type of person she taught me and also taught 2 of my kids never had this problem . But must understand this start at home if these parents these days step up and be more active in their childs school they would know whats going on .It ashame that it took 2 or 3 day for the issue to be address by mom I don't know about anyone esle but myself if my chid come home in something different then they had on with out a good explanation we have problems I would have been at the school the same day . Kids also take advantage of the fact that if someone other than mom and dad lay hands on them mom and dad is coming act a ass with some kids there is a big lack of hometraining. Parents and Teachers need to communicate more maybe the sitiutation would have had a different outcome.

I love children ! But that does not mean they do not need a good ass whooping. We are not giving them enough. That is why they behave the way the do. I am a black woman who works in detroit public schools and their is alot I can tell just at looking at how this childs hair is done when we put weave in a little girls hair and allow them to "act"grown thats exactly what they do. We have not heard that womans side of the story and we probably wont. The staff didnt contact the mother because that is more than likely not what happened what person in their right mind would wrap a coat around a six year olds neck and drag her accross the playgroung.. Then go back to teaching like nothing happened and without repremand from their principal? That little girl is probably OFF THE HOOK . Children lie just like parents it happens all the time parents want to complain but never fix . If the child wasnt misbehaving she wouldnt have even gotten the mildest of repremand let alone GOTTEN HER COAT WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK AND DRUG ALL THE WAY ACCROSS A PLAYGROUND IN BROAD DAYLIGHT BY A SIXTY SOMETHING YEAR OLD TEACHER WHO IS NOT ABOUT TO LOOSE HER CAREER PLEASE BLK PEOPLE KNOW A MESS WHEN YOU SEE ONE

You know I hate when people say "come on black people"! Look we don't know whose lying! Stop putting your hands on people. You can curse me out until you're blue in the face, but when you feel you need to reach out and touch you better believe there is going to be a problem. Words are words and they can hurt but you assaulting some one because your feelings got hurt is stupid. Handle it in better way. People stop making this seem like this is a black situation because it isn't.

Innocent, until proven guilty.

The woman is 65 years old and the little girl probably refused to go to the office when instructed. She probably started threating the teacher, and she, would not follow instructions and report to the office on her own. Being fed up with her crap, the lady probably dragged her but because she could not carry her.

Having volunteered in the New Orleans Public Schools, after I retired, I could have gone to jail trying to help the spawn of the idiots that made them. The parents are incapable of helping their children achieve basic skills, and they do not want to. It is their belief that the school is required to teach everything from potty training to early childhood development, after their children has babies.

Maybe the teacher should not have dragged the little bum to the office, but taken her around the building and punched her in the top of her head, leaving no evidence. She might have changed her attitude them. We were not there so we will never know.

let me rephrase it i am not saying that this in particular is a race issue... what i am saying is if it was the other way around a lot of people especially the black community will be quick to label it as a race issue. yes children of any race can be bad. I just don't think it's right to call a child ghetto and just because of how she looks she is ghetto and lying that is ridiculous and sad. but wanna have the nerve to get ignorant if a white individual was to say the same thing you can't have your cake and eat it too..

Anonymous said...

and last but not least.... you can't blame the child for how they are being brought up... they are not born knowing how to live in the world. as a teacher you have no right to do something like that whatsoever.. it's the parents job to discipline the child as far as physically. you already know when you go into teaching that not every child in the world is a little angel so if you can't handle find another job... and for the ones agreeing with the teacher doing that.. let's pray that you child never goes through anything like that.. and let's also pray for the child when they are being called a liar because individuals without morals..

"HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEONE DRAGGED YOUR CHILD" WOULD THAT MAKE YOUR CHILD A MONSTER AND ANY DISCIPLINE IS ACCEPTABLE???

In that Parish half of the schools are academically unacceptable for that reason right there...you spend 100 percent of your day taking Disciplinary Actions...children are in the first grade holding adult dialogue (that's to vulgar to repeat)during Reading Block...and can't read or repeat a sight word...even with them hanging up in the classroom...I'm not saying all of the children are behind...but the vast majority rule...and it's not their fault...it's their parents who are reactive about foolishness like this, and you can't even get them to a PTA meeting...and please don't schedule a Parent Teacher Conference...you'll be lucky to even talk to a Biological Parent!...I read one of the post that sated "This is not slavery..."...well I'm sorry to tell you...if somebody don't get a grip on the "Little Kiya's of the World"...this will be that generation that ushers us back into slavery!...and I'm not talking mental either...I'm talking about picking cotton on a Plantation and "damn sho' won't be hers!"...Ms. Rita...I totally agree with everything you've stated...I can tell you are...or have been in the trenches...A child is with a teacher 8 hours out of a 24hour period...and 8 of that 24...they are sleeping...now you do the Math that’s 16… it's up to you to make that impact with the rest of the 8!...I'm Done...

INCORRECT FACTS..THIS A VERY GOOD TEACHER AND VERY RESPECTABLE..THIS DAY AND TIME MY HAT GOES OUT TO ANYONE WHO IS A TEACHER..SOME OF THESE KIDS ARE VERY DISRESPECTFUL AND DO NOT GIVE A DAMM..IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE ME YOU NEED TO SIT IN ON A COUPLE OF THESE CLASS ROOMS..

Reading all the comments regarding this is laughable. I work with children and I know how they can rub you the wrong way but I no time can a teacher go this far with dragging a child by their clothes. Now the parents needs to find out what happen and if indeed her child has behavior problems she needs to deal with them now and stop ignoring the behaviors. Working in the system I am sure this is not the first time this child has misbehaved

Anonymous said...

In reply to Leatrice Porcher-Watson,
I agree with the facts as you mentioned, but I disagree with you on your observations. The only one to blame here is the teacher she is the adult it does not matter what the child did wrong, she is the professional in this situation, she is held to a higher standard than the child and should have handle the matter accordingly. No has the right to treat a child or anybody in that manner. She deserves to be punished through the judiciary system and not through the board of education. I hope the 6 year old child receives justice for the trauma the teacher has put her through.

Anonymous said...

To the first comment, who ever you are you are just an ignorant person to say such a thing!!.. this is a 6yr old child and she DID NOT deserve to be treated that way.I know that there are some out of control kids out here but that does not give the teacher the right to do what she did.if the child was acting out that bad then as the teacher she should have written the child up, sent her to the principle, or called her mom.parents dont send their kids to school to be abused, they are there to learn!..if she can't deal with the pros and cons of the job then she should not be working there..and as a parent myself I don't train my kids because they are not ANIMALS ONLY ANIMALS GET TRAINED, I TEACH MY KIDS,SET AN EXAMPLE FOR MY KIDS,SHOW THEM UNCONDITIONAL LOVE,and MY KIDS ARE VERY WELL MANNERED,WELL BEHAVED,and GET GOOD GRADES. if you have kids I feel sorry for them ESPECIALLY IF YOU TRAIN THEM LIKE ANIMALS..also if that was you child would you be referring to your own as a breeded little monster that needs to be trained, I doubt it!..

Anonymous said...

To all of these people on here saying this child is ghetto probably don't even know what ghetto really is and need to shut up!..yes there are bad kids out here with vulgar mouth's and it's not acceptable thats why we the adults are suppose to show them better.ABUSING THEM IS NOT OK!...some of you are saying these kids use profanity towards you, they threaten you etc..and some of them do but are you really that scared of a 6yr old child cussing at you, or threatening you?..if you are then I wonder about you..these are kids and we are the adults.there are other ways of dealing with bad kids like talk to them to try and figure out why they behave that way, take their recess away, write them up, send them to the priciple, call the parents!..NOT ABUSE!..I was raised by both parents taught manners, I respect my elders how ever had that been my child I WOULD BE FACING CHARGES FOR WHOOPING THAT TEACHER'S A$S!..tell me what my child has done and I will discipline my child.KIDS GO TO SCHOOL TO LEARN NOT TO BE ABUSED!..THIS TEACHER WAS CLEARLY WRONG AND FOR ALL YOU THAT HAVE SAID SHE WAS RIGHT THE CHILD DESERVED IT AND ITS OK, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOUR CHILD GET HANDLED THAT WAY ,AND HEAR YOU SAY IT'S OK YOUR CHILD DESERVED IT!..YOU WOULDN'T! THERE FOR IF IT WOULDN'T BE OK FOR YOUR CHILD THEN IT'S NOT OK FOR THIS CHILD OR ANY OTHER CHILD TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT!!...AND LAST FOR THE ONES TRYING TO MAKE IT A RACE THING TRY AGAIN BECAUSE YOU HAVE BAD KIDS/PEOPLE IN EVERY RACE!!.(WHITE, BLACK,ASIAN,INDIAN,HISPANIC etc)SO GET OVER IT!

Brenda C. said...

I don't agree with the way the teacher handled the situation, but I do concur we need to start teaching our children to be respectful, teach them manners, and to act as if they have some home training. It starts at home, if a child has not been taught how to act accordingly, they will not know, so some of the blame should be place on the FIRST teacher, the MOTHER.

Anonymous said...

That teacher needs to have a jacket wrapped around her neck and be dragged around that same playground

We as ppl of the community should not stand idle and allow this to happen to anyone kids. Await so comfortable at our little hidden nest bcuz it does not involved our own child. Most of all, we always have comments but NEVERTHELESS, DO NOT want to do anything to help or support the community. We rather go to the club and wear something up our tail. These KIDS need to be able to talk to their parents and know where they can get in touch with hem if this does occur. I bet this is NOT the first time this has happen or somehing similar. It's just the first time it has gotten out. The teacher or teachers, should be jailed. If it was my child, JAIL WOULD BE A SAFE PLACE FOR THE TEACHER.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SHE HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS..BUT HER MOTHER HAS NOT SHOWED UP..SHE SEE DOLLAR SIGNS...LAW SUIT,,BUT REALLY WE NEED TO RESPECT OUR TEACHER AND APPTRCIATE THEM AND COMMUNICATE ON A DAILY OR WEEKLY BASIC..THEY NEED TO BRING THE PADDLE BACK AND PRAYER BACK INTO THE SCHOOL..WE ARE LOSING OUR YOUNG KIDS..THIS DAY AND TIME YOU CAN NOT SAY ANYTHING TO A DISRESPECTFUL CHILD..LOOK OUT THE PARENTS WILL BE READY TO KILL YOU..JUST SAYING..BACK IN THE DAY IF YOU WAS WRONG, WHAT EVER ADULT SAW THIS,,THEY WHERE CORRECTLY YOU..WHIPPING YOU IF YOU NEEDED IT AND CALL MOM AND DAD AND THIS WAS ANOTHER WHIPPING AND PUNISHMENT..WE REALLY NEED TO PULL TOGETHER AND LOVE AND TEACH OUR KIDS AND IT STARTS AT HOME..YOUNG MOTHERS YOU NEED TO BEWARE OF THE THINGS YOU ARE SAYING AND DOING IN FRONT OF YOUR KIDS..ALSO REALIZE YOUR KID DO WHAT THEY SEE..THEY ARE OUR LITTLE ANGLES IN THE MAKING..I LOVE ALL KIDS..BEWARE OF THE PEOPLE YOU ARE LETTING BE AROUND YOUR KIDS AND HOW THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES..SO YOU KNOW THEY DO NOT RESPECT OUR KIDS..REMEMBER OUR KIDS ARE THE NEXT FUTURE GENERATION!!

As a Special-Education teacher, there are strategies to be used when a student is not following directions. Teachers receive on-going,in-service training classes to control unruly students. She sounds like she is burned out with this new generation of students. Whether it is out-of control students and/or bad parenting, this teacher should have gracefully walked away from her job and ventured into tutoring or mentoring students. She unfortunately did not make this choice, so the choice was made for her. Sadly, those precious years laboring with students, will be tarnished with a police report. There are times when you should walk away from the money, as she was probably trying to retire at 65 years, to receive full benefits...

I feel very sorry for both the teacher and the child in this situation. The teacher's life is now ruined and make no mistake, this little girl will forever remember this incident. There are children who are raised properly however, when they are around other children they completely forget what they were taught. We as adults do it as well. Let us not forget this child is 6yrs old and even if she behaves like an adult it's no fault of hers. This incident will either make or break this child. We are too quick to judge and suggest stigmatize others. Sometimes we need to stop for a second and think what might have caused this very sad situation. Remember violence begets violence we do not need anymore hate and violence in the world. It takes a village to raise a child. I feel sorry for us as a people.

I can't believe they kept her on PAID leave. Also whats up with a mother who doesn't notice bruising around a child's neck or wrong cloths or listen to a child. If this happened on Monday I'm sure the child said something before Wednesday. the mother, teacher & school district aught to be ashamed.
