Reggae Artist Buju Banton Appeals Drug Conviction

Your Black Gossip reports:

In an appeal of his federal drug conviction, Reggae legend, Buju Banton, born Mark Myrie, claims that there was not enough evidence to convict him of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The appeal for the Grammy-award winning singer was filed Friday by his attorney, David O. Markus, who claimed that his client was a victim of entrapment by an informant who was offered $50,000 by the government.

Banton, who had a separate gun charge thrown out by a judge, is serving a 10-year prison sentence following his February conviction on cocaine conspiracy and trafficking charges.

According to legal observers, it may be months before the appeal comes up in 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
