Sgt.Darwin Butler is a hard-bitten Chicago police veteran who has worked some of his city's most violent neighborhoods for decades.
So, when he pulled up to a shooting scene and found yet another young man shot dead in a car, he checked for signs of life and took the normal steps to secure the crime scene.
Then he looked at the murdered boy's face again -- and realized it was his own stepson, Darius Parish. Sgt Butler raised the promising 20-year-old college student since he was an 8-year-old child. He watched Mr Parish grow into a man.
