Sam Hurd of the Chicago Bears was a wide receiver who seemed to have it all. Earning millions playing in the NFL, Hurd is the last person anyone would expect to be selling dope on the side. But according to federal authorities, the high life may be coming to an end.
Hurd is now in federal custody after being charged with trying to set up a drug dealing network. He was allegedly caught with a kilo of cocaine when taken into custody.
The receiver met with an undercover agent this week at a Chicago restaurant. Hurd told the agent that he was trying to buy 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana to distribute in Chicago. Police are alleging that Hurd and a co-conspirator already sell four kilos per week and were trying to get a stronger supplier.
Hurd allegedly said that the other conspirator handles most of the deals and that he handles the bigger deals. He agreed to pay $25,000 per kilo for the cocaine and $450 for each pound of marijuana.
The complaint was filed in Texas, where Hurd is set to face up to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine if he’s convicted. He is being charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.

Is anyone really surprised by the alleged fact that a nickle-dime NFL player was dealing in DRUGS?
