I LOVE THIS GAME! Basketball Could Start As Soon As Christmas!
The NBA and its players reached an agreement early Saturday morning that paves the way for their 149-day labor dispute to end and a shortened 66-game season to begin Dec. 25, after nearly two months of missed games.
"We saw a willingness on both sides to compromise a little bit more to reach this agreement, we look forward to opening on Christmas Day," National Basketball Association Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said at a press conference just before 4 a.m. "We're excited to bring NBA basketball back."
The two sides met for 15 hours at a Manhattan office building, in the first major talks since the union disbanded Nov. 14. In a joint press conference with player representatives, Commissioner David Stern said he will speak with the league's owners on a conference call later Saturday, and that he expects them to support the deal.
