Financial Difficulties For Hall Of Fame Player Julius "Dr.J" Erving:Dr.J Will Auction Off Several Personal Items

Minimum bid for the NBA ring is $25,000 and $20,000 for the ABA bid.

Hall of Fame player Julius Erving’s only National Basketball Association championship ring and the trunks Muhammad Ali wore in his first fight against Joe Frazier are among sports memorabilia being put up for auction.

Several items from the personal collection of Erving, who was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 following 11 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and five in the American Basketball Association, will be up for online bids by SCP Auctions beginning Oct. 28, the auction house said in a news release.
Erving is auctioning his championship ring from the 1982-83 NBA season, when the 76ers went 65-17, lost one playoff game and swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals; ABA championship rings from 1974 and 1976 with the New York Nets; Most Valuable Player trophies from each league, and several game-worn jerseys.
The minimum bid is $25,000 for the NBA championship ring, and $20,000 for each ABA title ring as well as the 1980-81 NBA MVP Trophy.
Erving said in a statement issued by the auction house that he would donate part of the proceeds to the Salvation Army.
Erving, whose above-the-rim playing style was credited with helping to bring about the merger of the NBA and ABA, was an All-Star in every season he played, retiring with a 24.2 points- per-game scoring average in the two leagues. His combined 30,026 points are fifth on the career list.
