Al Sharpton Gets His Wish, Rush Limbaugh Will NOT Own the Rams!

By Jordan C. Alston

Rush Limbaugh is no stranger to controversy.

Every word uttered by the pugnacious pill-popper ignites a firestorm that even Beelzebub would want no part of.

It is that same polarizing quality that has denied the jolly racially intolerant fat man the distinct privilege of owning an NFL franchise.

Caving to public pressure applied by current players, the NFLPA, and civil rights dunderhead Al Sharpton, Dave Checketts has dropped the Limbaugh from his bidding team, a move that underscores the level of toxicity associated with the shock jock.

Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsey predicted that an association with Limbaugh would hamper anyone seeking team ownership, claiming that it “would be met with significant opposition.”

“I met Rush only once,” said Irsey to media during a fall owners meeting. “I, myself, couldn't even consider voting for him. When there are comments that have been made that are inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive…our words do damage, and it's something that we don't need.”

Of the 32 league owners, three-quarters would have had to vote in favor of the potential buyout in order for Limbaugh to become a team owner.

In Racist Rush's absence, Checketts  will have to work diligently to find an adequate replacement with enough cash to get back into the bidding run.

He’s Still the Man

image

Money came back with a guarantee. Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the world he was still its best boxer despite taking 21 months off, and he backed up every boast with every jab in an impressive victory.

Although next time out, hopefully he’ll pick on somebody his own size.

Mayweather overpowered the smaller, lighter Juan Manuel Marquez for an unanimous decision Saturday night, maintaining his perfect record in his comeback from retirement.

Mayweather knocked down Marquez in the second round and then peppered him with countless damaging shots to remain unbeaten (40-0, 25 KOs). Still, his impressive effort couldn’t be viewed without weighing the obvious disadvantages in height and strength faced by the talented Marquez, a 130-pounder just 18 months ago who moved up two weight classes for this once-in-a-career payday at the MGM Grand Garden.

Serena’s Official Apology

By Chris Chase

It took 36 hours, one press conference, two statements and an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, but Serena Williams finally issued a legitimate apology for her tirade in a U.S. Open semifinal match.

Yesterday Serena issued a statement through the USTA that was striking in its stubbornness and lack of contrition. Today, before she and her sister Venus were to play in the womens' doubles finals, Serena released a new, real apology:

"I want to amend my press statement of yesterday, and want to make it clear as possible - I want to sincerely apologize FIRST to the lines woman, Kim Clijsters, the USTA and mostly tennis fans everywhere for my inappropriate outburst. I'm a woman of great pride, faith and integrity, and I admit when I'm wrong. I need to make it clear to all young people that I handled myself inappropriately and it's not the way to act -- win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner.'

I like to lead by example. We all learn from experiences both good and bad, I will learn and grow from this, and be a better person as a result."

That's better. That's the statement Serena should have released yesterday.

Serena and Venus Williams Considering Buying a Share of Miami Dolphins

Serena Williams and her sister Venus are in preliminary talks to become part-owners of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, the 11-time grand slam winner confirmed on Wednesday.

"There have been preliminary talks and hopefully it will work out," Serena Williams told reporters after her second round win over Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova at the Toronto Cup. "That would be a great opportunity for both of us.

"We'll see what happens, you never know."

If they did acquire a stake in the Dolphins, the Williams sisters would join musicians Jimmy Buffet and Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who became minority partners in the team earlier this year.

Buffett, owner of Margaritaville Enterprises, signed a deal in May, which includes the team's stadium being renamed after his LandShark Lager beer for the 2009 season.

The Williams, who live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, are not described as big NFL fans but view the Dolphins as a vehicle to promote themselves.

"Venus and I are always trying to expand our brand," said Williams. "If the opportunity presents itself we would love to see where it can take us.

"Hopefully we'll be able to expand our brand."

Football Star Burress Indicted On Weapons Charges

Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on weapons charges stemming from an incident last November in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a New York nightclub, prosecutors announced Monday.

Burress, 31, was indicted on two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment, according to the announcement by the Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau.

New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, Burress' former teammate who was with him at the club and drove him to the hospital, was not indicted for his role in the incident, according to the prosecutor's announcement.

NY Times Reports Ortiz and Ramirez Listed Of Positive Test

In a statement he released Thursday afternoon, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz acknowledged that a New York Times report that said he was one of the players to have tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003 was accurate.

"I have already contacted the Players Association to confirm if this report is true. I have just been told that the report is true," Ortiz's statement read in part. "Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive."

Manny Ramirez, the Dodgers star who has already served a 50-game suspension for a failed test earlier this season, was also named in the Times report. According to The Associated Press, he had no comment other than to direct reporters to call the players' union.

More McNair Craziness: Murder Suicide or Homicide?

image

There are stories circulating that the murder of Steve McNair may have been a murder suicide between himself and the 20 year old female who was also found dead. While his wife was reported to have been in Mississippi at the time of the shooting, there are some who are speculating on whether or not she played a role in the murders. At this point, McNair's wife has not had her alibi publicly questioned by police.

One other interesting fact about the case: The police chief didn't ask for any witnesses to come forward to identify possible suspects. This sounds like the police think they know who did it.

Read more on the Steve McNair murder.

More to come!
