Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress is expected to be released from a New York prison today after serving 20 months in prison for a weapons charge stemming from a shooting incident at a nightclub.
The incident occurred in November 2008 when Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg with a .40-caliber semi automatic pistol he was carrying in his waistband while in Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan. He was not licensed to carry a pistol in the state of New York, or in New Jersey where he lived.
Burress pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in August 2009, and agreed to serve two years under a plea agreement. He has spent the last 20 months at Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, New York.
